From Side-Streams to Skincare: ÄIO at in-cosmetics Global 2026
Every year, in-cosmetics Global brings together the people shaping the future of the cosmetics industry. From raw materials to finished formulations, from early-stage ideas to market-ready products. Iit is where innovation becomes tangible.
For ÄIO, this year marks an important shift. We are here not only to talk about what is possible but to show what is already happening. You can find us in the Sustainability Zone, stand 1C81.
Building a New System for Fats and Oils
At ÄIO, we are developing a new way to produce fats and oils for cosmetics industry. Instead of relying on traditional agriculture, we use fermentation, combining biotechnology with low-value side-streams from forestry, agriculture, and the food industry. These inputs, often considered waste, are transformed into high-performance lipids through our proprietary yeast platform.
The goal is clear: to create ingredients that are traceable, scalable, and independent of climate and land use, while delivering the performance required by modern formulations.
Compared to conventional oil production, this approach enables:
- significantly lower land use
- reduced water consumption
- faster and more controlled production cycles
But technology alone is not enough. The real question is: Can these ingredients work in real products?
This year, we are proud to showcase something new. Together with Estonian natural cosmetics brand tilk!, we are presenting the Skin Booster Bio-Fermented Serum with ÄIO RedOil, our first commercial product.
This marks a key milestone for ÄIO, as for the first time, our fermentation-derived ingredient has moved all the way from research and development into a product that consumers can use. It is a clear demonstration that biotechnology can deliver not only sustainability, but also performance, stability, and user experience. The serum combines ÄIO RedOil with marine and plant-based actives, creating a formulation designed to restore elasticity, deeply hydrate, and support skin balance. For us, this is more than a launch. It is proof that a new production system for fats and oils can integrate into real supply chains and real products.

Ingredients Designed for the Next Generation of Formulations
At our booth, we are showcasing three core ingredients, each representing a different approach to functional lipids. These ingredients are not only concepts, they are formulation-ready solutions, tested with partners and designed for real applications.
- RedOil: a fermentation-derived oil rich in carotenoids, polyphenols, and essential fatty acids. It delivers antioxidant protection and retinol-like skin renewal benefits without irritation, supporting skin barrier function and resilience.
- ZymaLipid Complex: a high-purity fatty acid complex (over 99%) designed to bring structure, stability, and a premium skin feel into formulations. It enables formulators to reduce reliance on traditional butters and oils while maintaining performance.
- Encapsulated Oil: a multifunctional ingredient combining lipids with proteins, amino acids, and bioactive compounds. It offers both functional and nutritional value, opening new possibilities for formulation design.
Three days of Exchange, Insight, and Collaboration
Events like in-cosmetics Global are not only about showcasing innovations. They are about conversations, understanding industry needs, sharing insights, and building partnerships that move ideas forward.
This week in Paris, we are:
- meeting partners, customers, and distributors from across the industry
- discussing formulation possibilities and performance data
- exploring how fermentation-derived lipids can fit into existing and future product portfolios
We are also contributing to the official programme:
- Wednesday, 15 April | 15:15 Sustainability Theatre
Magdalena Koziol, Head of Cosmetics Development at ÄIO, will present:
“Sustainable Alternatives to Conventional Cosmetic Oils: Novel Lipids from Fermentation of Low-Value Side Streams” - Thursday, 16 April | 11:15 R&D Tour: Innovations in Skin Sensitivity
Our booth will be part of the official R&D Tour, showcasing next-generation ingredient innovation.
Recognising the Shift
This year, ÄIO has also been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award. For us, this is more than recognition. It reflects a broader shift in the industry, a growing understanding that new technologies, such as fermentation, are becoming essential in building more sustainable and resilient supply chains.

From Ingredients to Impact
The future of cosmetics will not be defined by single innovations, but by how systems come together:
- raw materials and their origin
- production technologies
- ingredient functionality
- formulation performance
- and collaboration across the value chain
At ÄIO, we are working to connect these elements.
From side-streams to ingredients. From ingredients to formulations. From formulations to products. Each step brings us closer to a more sustainable and functional future for fats and oils.
Meet Us in Paris, 14–16 April 2026! We are here, ready to share, learn, and build what comes next together with the industry. Sustainability Zone, stand 1C81.
Come by, explore, and let’s talk about how fermentation can fit into your next products.
